Youth Ministry

What is Youth Ministry?

Young people have gifts that can transform a faith community, if the community is open to those gifts and the changes that they may necessitate. Youth ministry is as much about helping young people as it is about helping young people to share their gifts with the parish community.

Youth Ministry, as defined by the US Bishops in Renewing the Vision, includes middle school youth (grades 6-8) and high school youth (grades 9-12).  These age groups should be ministered to within different programs and events because of age and developmental differences.

Goals of Catholic Youth Ministry:

Goal 1: To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today. (RTV, p.9)

Goal 2: To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community. (RTV, p. 11)

Goal 3: To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person. (RTV, p. 15)

Celebrating the Sacraments of Initiation in Their Proper Order and Implementing Comprehensive Youth Ministry

Parish Comprehensive Youth Ministry Assessment Tool

The prerequisite for parishes to begin celebrating the sacraments of initiation in their original order is to implement Comprehensive Youth Ministry. The Parish Comprehensive Youth Ministry Assessment Tool will help you identify areas of strength and areas for growth in your parish's youth ministry and help you discern whether your parish will join Transition Group 1, 2, or 3 in moving toward the original order of the sacraments of initiation.

A PDF of the CYMA Tool is available HERE.

We ask that the Pastor, Coordinator of Youth Ministry, Director of Religious Education and anyone directly involved with Catechesis of young peple in grades 6-12 meet and complete the assessment tool together.

For questions regarding the assessment, email or call (808) 203-6763.

When your parish team has completed the assessment, please email or call (808) 585-3342 with your preferred Transition Group choice no later than December 30, 2015.
